Only the hardy could brave the strong winds and inclement conditions at the Low Head Pilot Station. A few of our Northern members were in attendance with the Bendigo Veteran, Vintage and Classic Club on their 50th Anniversary Tour here in Tassie.
An extensive tour of the Pilot Station, and then a nice country run along the river to Hillwood led to the Strawberry Farm Café, where hot drinks and cakes were consumed by many of the visiting club members. After becoming replenished with the food and drinks the wonderful lady in charge, gave us an impromptu talk on the history and running of the Strawberry Farm as it is today.
100 acres of Strawberries, Blueberries, Blackberries and Raspberries is quite an impressive amount of berries, especially when you consider most of the Farm is under cover.
Well done to our impromptu speaker, and it was great to meet the friendly Bendigo Members despite the weather, and a pleasure to have been your guide for the Afternoon Run.
Swansea continues to impress entrants each year with sunny skies and pleasant weather. After the Avoca lunch stop, there was a choice of Royal George, Elephant Pass, or the journey via St Marys and Four Mile Creek, which was something to behold this year, with no sea mist or clouds, giving an uninterrupted view past all beaches down the coastline as far as the Hazards of Coles Bay.
Vintage touring at its best, on quiet roads through the Nile, and a windless drive across the Esk highway to the St Marys Pass. A great meal at the RSL finished a great day of driving.
Sunday presented us with another crystal clear morning, and not even dew to be wiped from most vehicles. A photo shoot at the local beach with all entrants, including those who had chosen to attend the event but had the misfortune to have had to leave their vehicles at home due to mechanical failure of their entered vehicle.
Thanks to Pat and Terry for another well run All Vintage Run.

This event is under new management next year, so watch this space

The Northwest Section has conducted this year’s event in the picturesque hills behind Devonport. The first day ran through Railton with the “tunnel of death” the highlight, as we passed under the Bass Highway at Sassafras heading in a circle towards Wesley Vale, back to the Devonport accommodation. Peas, Pies, Potatoes and Pavlova’s created a unique tea for the entrants.
Day two started in good weather as we wound our way toward the hills around Sheffield to view a unique radio collection, From here it was keeping up with the Max’s A40 as we paced our way to Steamfest, where there is an abundance of food and displays to view. The return journey to Devonport was a challenge in slightly damp conditions for those in open cars, but the sun came out to dry out any vehicles that had received an internal wash.
Day 3 was another trip back into the hills with some challenging hills for all entrants as we wound our way through what appeared to be the food bowl of the North West. Neatly ploughed farms and growing crops made for a beautiful drive in the country and the views on return were stunning.
Winners in the Judging category ranged from Peters Alfa, to Scott’s Ford T, and Frank’s Riley.
Congratulations to Michelle and team on a very good tour.
