Cracked Plug Veteran Tour 2019 – Launceston to Miena
The rolling hills and quiet roads behind Westbury made for easy travelling to Pearns Steam World, for the morning tea stop. More pleasant back roads to Golden Valley before the “Challenge of the Day” as entrants climbed the 1210mtrs, to the top of Western Tiers. The early birds up the mountain enjoyed cool but dry condition, as opposed to the later entrants, some even donning the emergency ponchos to avoid a misting drizzle.
Nothing dampens the spirit of a true veteran driver, and the lunch at Breona certainly came to the fore.
The final drive across the plains to our accommodation presented us with some fire ravaged scenery, and a cattle grid most will remember. I at least slowed for the next two cattle grids, which were indeed quite smooth. A dinner held at the Great Lake Hotel was enjoyed by all entrants.
